Culture & Region

Schmalkalden is situated on the southwestern slope of the Thuringian Forest near the Rennsteig. The medieval protected town center consists almost exclusively of half-timbered buildings. Worth a visit are the Steinernen Kemenaten, the Town Hall, the late Gothic Hallenkirche St. Georg and the almost completely preserved palace of the German Renaissance: Schloss Wilhelmsburg.

But also in the immediate environment Schmalkaldens there are numerous sight-seeing destinations. Visit the theater town of Meiningen with the Elisabethenburg Palace, the old town of Karnevalshochburg Wasungen, the cure facility in Bad Salzungen or Bad Liebenstein or the competition and training facility of the Wintersportelite Oberhof.

Day trips to Wartburg in Eisenach, to the Goethe city of Weimar or to the state capital of Erfurt are cultural highlights.

But also all nature and hiking friends come to us along the nearby Rennsteig at their expense.

We would be glad to provide you with information about excursion destinations or leisure activities and provide them with a wide range of information material.
